Anna Hilti discovered two folders at the Liechtenstein National Archives that contain around 400 pictures relating to Liechtenstein’s emigration history to the US. The photographs were mostly taken in the US and reached Europe at a later date.
Stemming from different time periods and sources, the collection appears random in its variety. At the same time it represents in its totality the image of an entire era which was archived on a national level.
Hilti examined a selection of the pictures for similarities and contents and enlarged them as a whole or in excerpts. In the form of fragile paper monuments the pictures give a glimpse into the Archive’s picture collection and the photographically documented world of the emigrants.
